I took the file down because I am making some very good improvements on them, and I just didn't want to create any confusion! Right now I am working on a new version of those files and it will contain 7 different themes. I am also working on a program that will automatically convert "old" GUI objects (such as [bng] and [tgl]) into the new ones, if someone wants to have an older patch looking like that video. I should upload everything again in a day or two, ok?

I am very glad to announce that I completed the new themes for pd and they are ready to be used! I wrote an extensive README file which is included in the pd-alternative-themes.tar.gz, so please take your time to read it.

Thank you very much, zepadovani! I'd be very glad to add your binaries to this package, so it would make life easier for users of different OSes than mine. Also, did you try the converters that I added? Do they work on your OS X machine?

Hi cuinjune, thank you so much for the compliment, I am glad you liked it.

As for the using it with any other OS than Linux, here is how it works: all these abstractions contain an object named [image], and this object needs the absolute path of every .gif image that I used (and obviously this path will be different for different systems, since the user can install it anywhere). In order to do add one's own path automatically, I wrote a Fortran program named "configure" that automatically gets the current path of your installation and add it to every [image] object in every abstraction.

I compiled this Fortran code on my Linux machine, and therefore only people using Linux can execute it, but you can either try to compile it by yourself (the source code is included in this package) or you can contact the user zepadovani (who commented above) since he managed to compile it in OSX. As soon as he sends me those binaries, I will add them to the package.

@cuinjune BTW, I also plan to make a new version of this package soon, and I will include binaries for Linux and Windows (and hopefully Mac as well if someone can compile them for me), as well as some new objects: a fully function MIDI keyboard, a toggle that responds to mouse clicking and release, and some more objects.

@zepadovani I just realized that I replied to you without the @, so you may never have seen my answer. It would be great if you could upload the binaries here, some other users may find it useful!

@manticore Hi, I am working on these themes once again and I will upload the newer version as soon as I can. I found a way to avoid the complicated installation (no need for that annoying Fortran executable any more), but I am not sure if it will on other OS than Linux. When finished, I will post it again on this thread, ok?

To be honest with you, I kind of gave up working on these for the following reasons:

• the [image] object, which I so much depend for doing this type of thing, is very unstable and annoying to use in pd-extended. It can work very well sometimes, but then again it can be very buggy.
• it also has this huge limitation that in order to load a .gif file, it needs either the image's full path or it needs that this file is located in the current main patch's folder (not in the library folder). That's the reason behind having this annoying installer, which I compiled only for Linux: it makes alterations to all .pd files and tells them the absolute path of each .gif used. If I could work around this problem I would most likely give these ideas another go...
• using my objects rather than extended's object, sharing patches is more difficult. For this, I wrote some little Fortran programs that will convert a patch using my [zdac~] into [dac~], [zspigot] into [spigot], etc., but to be honest that is not very handy at all, as the layout may change a bit (due to the size of the objects), and to convert back from regular extended does not work so well.
• I currently use Pd-l2Ork, which does not accept tcl plugins such as the color-scheme-plugin.tcl - but that's quite not relevant in that case anyway since you can customize colour schemes directly in Pd-l2Ork and the whole layout looks much better than extended (which was the motivation behind this work)

It is really a pity though, particularly because I was so excited to develop a proper MIDI keyboard for Pd using these very simple objects, but in the end it shows the same problems as described above: http://forum.pdpatchrepo.info/topic/8584/keyboards-gui-for-midi

@gsagostinho HI Gilberto, I made some abstractions for finding the path name of the root canvas in pd-extended using hcs/window_name, ggee/getdir, and ekext/cup. It requires another abstraction called patchdepth. Here they are if you're interested (though I'm not sure if they would work on l2ork

@seb-harmonik.ar Hi Seb, thanks for the patches, they work really well and are part of my arsenal now!

But I believe that the root canvas' path will not help me because these objects of mine are meant to be loaded as abstractions. The gif images will be located inside the abstraction folder in the user's path, and the [image] objects will be part of that abstraction. But I am thinking now that maybe I can do something with [absolutepath], I will check it out and see if I figure something out.

I believe I manage to circumnavigate the path problem by using moonlib's {absolutepath]. I updated my keyboards, so now they should work out of the box, without any installer. Indeed I managed to find a workaround for this annoying situation of needing an installer. Since I mainly use Pd-l2Ork, which does not accept GUI plugins, I do not have any personal motivation for converting this library which I no longer use. But if anyone else would be interested, then I would certainly update it and repost it here. Let me know about it then.
