error opening audio: Internal PortAudio error

Hi, Puredata Pd 0.51.2 refuses to open audio. Everytime I try to setup audio I get "error opening audio: Internal PortAudio error" on the console.

I have tryied with the MOTU interface and built-in iMac audio interface and the behaviour is the same.

It use to work before. I have tryied older Pd versions with same results.

My setup is:
iMac (21.5-inch, 2017)
macOS Catalina 10.15.7 (19H2)
MOTU Ultralite mk3 hybrid
Pd Pd 0.51.2

If you know how to compile you could try to enable the PortAudio debug (PA_ENABLE_DEBUG_OUTPUT) flag?

@Coco Did you get it to work for your normal user by comparing the ~/Library/Audio folder with the new one that works?

Hi @coco. Your solution fixed my problem. This isn't ideal but Pd is working the way it should. How do we repair/reset/amend user privileges on our existing user accounts, I wonder? I flagged this with Miller.

hi everyone. I just solved this problem in my machine. Looking around some foruns, I've found this clue: problems with AU plugins. Try to delete some plugins that doesn't work in these folders: ~/Library/Audio/Plugins or Users/Library/Audio/Plugins...

I've wrote some test plugins as VST and AU format. I've deleted them and Pd returned to work just fine.

@danielsomar - you're not wrong. I had some development plugs from a friend on my machine. I deleted those and that solved the issue. In my case, the issue was some AU devices.

This also fixed a related error that cropped up in Audacity, too. This 'solution' makes little sense to me.

@ricky, nice. But, man, some stuffs go crazy senseless on Pd. I guess the file tree might be used for Pd somehow.

@danielsomar's solution worked for me - specifically removing the 'BlackHole.driver' and the 'MMAudio Device.driver'.

It’s been a very long time since I have been in the forum.

Ihave resurrected an old peace, and I am running David Wilcox’s PD compiled version MacBook Pro, and one pro chip. PD.52 – ARM.

I got it going!, Then I found the compiled abstractions by Andrew Brown, which look fantastic! I did this to rebuild some of the parts of patches no longer supported.

Came back to work on my patch and I’m getting an internal port error. PD doesn’t want to work/send audio out the headphone jack. Again, I had this all working when I first downloaded the latest version… with the headphone jack(!). Not sure what the culprit is. I did reach read this thread, but I don’t think I have any AU plug-ins that would cause this problem.

Any and all help would be most appreciated

Same issue for me happened this morning....
Occures on Ventura 13.0.1 (M2).

I tried to do what everybody suggested on this post but nothing worked for me, any ideas ?
