Hello,

Altough Gem is not being loaded, as in this screenshot

some gem objects are, but some aren't

"pix_film" "mix" and "texture" are missing, just as "rectangle" and any other "geometric" I try to add

the console shows a lot missing stuff whenever I open a GEM patch.

@zerino Have you tried adding "Gem" to Preferences -> Startup? Needs restart after this.

@zerino From what i read, Gem may not been working on 64-bit Pd on Windows or something...

@ingox it does work perfectly on PD extended. But since I couldn`t install ofelia on extended Im trying to make vanilla load GEM because maybe extended is too old to ofelia and other modern stuff (there's a VJ set of abstractions that im using that only work on vanilla also)

@ingox ah... pd vanilla is actually 32bit in my win10 machine. did you mean 64bit windows?

@zerino After a lot of research, this is the only way I managed to get Gem working with vanilla on my 64-bit Windows7......

it still complains about abstractions everytime I open a patch tough, is that normal?

it still cant find gem-meta.pd as it was not present in extende's Gem.

The terminal will still complain...... but everything will work.....
I grabbed the contents of my "extended" Gem folder and copied them to another folder, taking care to then remove the "Gem.dll" which would have caused confusion for Pd.
Setting a path in Pd preferences the abstractions will then create.
The only problem is that right-clicking the abstractions for "help" doesn't work....... so I have to go looking for them in the folder when I need help.
I have not found a solution for that yet....... but it is not life threatening so I have not looked very hard.....

P.S. It is great that it works on widows10 as well. I was thinking of writing up a tutorial...... but I could not be sure that I remembered exactly as it was a lot of trial and error.
Once you have it all working I will try to solve the "help" bit, and then make a definitive tutorial.
Yes.... the Gem meta file is not there. I tried to make one based on a download I found somewhere but no success. It does not seem to be necessary..... unless it would solve the "help" problem. It might. Zexy has one I think, that has all the abstractions inside.

@whale-av oh, of course. I actually followed the whole instructions in the thread you provided, even copying extended's gem and deleting the binary.

I could fix the help thing by not creating a "GemAbstr" folder, but merging extended's Gem with version 0.94, taking care to not replace any dll.

is that problematic in any sense? because "help" is now working

@zerino That's brilliant.....! I will try the "merge" when I get a moment. Let us know more when you have done some thorough testing......
I will look again at the "meta" as well........ unless you get there first...!
If the whole of Gem can be made to work transparently like this, can be added to the "extra" folder, and Antoine Villeret gives permission, then it could maybe be added to Deken for Windows.

wow that would be neat. whhich paths should we take? tried puttinng purr-data's meta into vanilla's folder but it made PD crash

And Extended's gem doesnt have a meta.

maybe downloading one from deken? or from the site.

@zerino I tried a while ago to make a meta file. Every one I made would crash Pd (every version).
I cannot see (in other Meta files) anything special at all, which makes me think that somehow they are incorporated into the library executable when it is built.

and drilling down suggests that @Eeight might know a lot more than we do......

A long time ago I compiled Gem as a static library for embedding it in a libpd executable. It was all done in linux. I have never dealt with meta and windows.

i wouldnt know how to generate it, but maybe you would.

@zerino Yes, it was the first one I tried. The meta files are so simple, and I am pretty sure that the Gem binary is just expecting to find the one that was generated when it was compiled. It is probably a licensing thing.
Not having the source code, and never having compiled anything anyway, it is beyond my meagre knowledge......
