Thanks for taking the time. I am getting a little bit frustrated here, so I guess it’s best to ask the community:

How do I get MrPeach to work on 0.47.1? I am using a Raspberry Pi 3 (running Linux version 4.9.20-v7+) and Pure Data 0.47.1.

I installed mrpeach using the “find externals” functionality. Of course I edited the path to “/home/pi/pd-externals” and created a “mrpeach” entry in the startup preferences.

Some background information: I want my Python code to “communicate” with pd but actually I do not care how they do this. OSC-Messages seem to be the easiest solution.

To get you working in the meantime.........

You could just use [netreceive] for data..... you don't absolutely have to use osc.
If you want to use osc there are objects in Vanilla that work....... [oscparse] and [oscformat]

However there is a bug in [oscparse] if you use an integer in the message address (not the data of course!).
There is a solution for that bug included in this zip, as well as a demo of [netsend] and [netreceive] for vanilla.

@Dannielo The actual path to where the .pd files are has to be put in Preferences > Path. The entries in Preferences > Startup can be deleted to get rid of the error messages.

Another solution would be the [shell] object from the ggee library, which should be available via apt-get install for the Pi. You can execute your Python scripts through [shell] and get their output by calling Python's print function and receiving it via [shell]'s left outlet.

OSC is native in Vanilla since 0.46, so there should be no need to use mrpeach. Check [oscparse] and [oscformat].

Hi all, anybody solved this problem? I am on RPi 3, raspbian stretch, latest Vanilla a python 2. I need to send data from Python to Pd and I tried osc and got errors using mrpeach library, oscparse I still have ti test it and the shell object is working to start the python script that prints the data but no output in Pd.

@misturapura Could you post the errors please, and the patch, and an example of the message you are sending or the Python script.
It could be.....
Objects not creating because not found (esp. mrpeach....... path....)
Bug in [oscparse] for floats in message header.
TCP / UDP mismatch.
No socket connection.

There are always solutions......

Hi thanks for your reply, I solved the problem.
I run in Pd 0.47.1 (vanilla) a patch containing [shell] object that I use to launch python script with message

(by the way I was expecting this object to output the value that the python script prints as Alex Drymonitis suggests, but I get no output from the shell object - I guess this is issue for another post).

In the same patch I receive the OSC packets with netreceive. (I WAS FORGETTING TO PUT THE FLAGS -u -b ) like this:

|
[ oscparse ]

The error I got was that he was unable to establish connection. Of course everything becomes clear afterwards, thank you very much for your response anyway and your support in this forum.

@misturapura I just wrote the following in a python script called "printToPd.py":
print "hello!"
and calling it this way:

[python printToPd.py(

[shell]
|
[print]

I do get a "hello!" in Pd's console.

@alexandros Hi Alex thank you for your contribution very valuable. I also get the same with this simple example but if I put a code that takes the stream of values from a distance sensor in the raspberry I do not get any output from [shell]. I have been able with OSC but it is still not working properly also, maybe I am doing something wrong with the python code, because it is not working all the time. Sometimes it says that the channel (pin where I read the sensor) is already in use (?? I am still new to reading sensors directly with the RPi, maybe you have some opinion). Thanks anyway for all

If you want, you can try [serial_print], a vanilla abstraction (that takes input from [comport] though) that works with Arduino's Serial.print() function (I'm saying this because you mentioned a sensor). It's very easy to use, just read its help patch and the Arduino sketch that comes with it.
