I was messing with the [sudden_motion_sensor] object and the [grid] object made this. Requires PD Extended

That's great to hear. Could you please share your solution. I had a similar problem a while back and ended up deleting and re-downloading pd.
Really? Weird. I've never changed any startup info successfully so I assumed it must be in some plist somewhere.
The [sudden_motion_sensor] external is part of the Apple library that comes with PD Extended. If you have never changed any startup info then it should load by default.
I probably should mention that you need an Apple Mac-Book.
It loads most .mov files but I was getting lots of audio errors so I decided to play audio in iTunes and sync it up with the spacebar.
this is cool but pd keeps crashing
