So I'm trying to take realtime satellite coordinates from http://www.satview.org/?sat_id=37820U so I can generate sound in PD with it for a university project - Space music

Also what is the best way to send midi out of a patch??

Any hints or tips on how to achieve this would be greatly appreciated!

Hum, I am not aware of any pd solution (be it externals, abstractions) that do that (a quick search didn't reveal anything useful). A solution would be to code something in python or lua or even a shell script. If you can find the coordinates in RSS, I have coded this: PDPYRSSPARSER - http://puredata.info/Members/patrick

midiout can be done with a combo of [makenote] and [noteout]

Hello @EEight thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately I'm working in OSX and not Linux so I don't think I'll be able to use your patch. It does look great though!

I get the following message in the PD window when trying to load it:

[import]: can't load library in 'py'
pyext rssparser fetch
... couldn't create

In the meantime I will keep trawling google for alternative means, I'm sure there must be a way!

Install faq:

Then you could use beautifulsoup to fetch the exact information if the RSS feed is not available...

I've been working on some max/pd examples that use node js, so this could be an avenue worth researching. I still need to put the pd patches up but its possible. Kinda convoluted but definitely a way. The sketches for Max also work for PD. I uploaded new PD patches which clarify the use of Serial.println(). Also, no extra libraries are needed.

It really is a drag when something that can be done simply on a raspberry pi is "impossible" on expensive osx hardware....
but if you could share data with a spreadsheet you might be able to build your own api...
This could be done with Excel, which can import web data, or maybe this will work:

You might be lucky though...... there is serious work being done!......

@whale-av A real drag indeed! Fortunately I do have a raspberry pi, so I will pursue that line of inquiry and see where it leads seeing as it may be much easier than swimming against the tide of OSX. Many thanks!
