We can't say we don't have arrows now.

By the way, I've seen some patch somewhere that used a series of { _ } and { | } plus { ^ }. Ackward, but stil another possibility.

I've tried also with connected messages that use any of {^ V < >}. But one gets confused...they become visual contamination.
