Hi all,

Today I discovered some problems with Line~ (cyclone object): I just can't control it via messages such as [pause(, [stop( and [resume(, such as the help file recommends. When I try it, I get the following error messages:

Line~: no method for 'pause'
Line~: no method for 'stop'
Line~: no method for 'resume'

Is someone else experiencing this? Did they ever work before? I don't have vanilla pd nor any older pd-extended version (I use version 0.43.4 - 64-bit on Linux).

If this is a bug, then what is the procedure to report it? Should I simply add it to the bug tracker on sourceforge or should I first e-mail it to some dev?

dunno if it's a bug, but Pd's native [line~] can do what you want, pause, resume, or just to a new ramp. check it's help file.

Sure, I know that [line~] can do that, but that is really not what my question is about. My point is: [Line~] is also supposed to do that, and if you go to its help file you will see that these messages (pause, stop, resume) are there in the example, and they don't work for me, thus why it seems to be a bug.

Also, since [Line~] is default with pd-extended and has the advantageous second outlet which bangs when it reaches the final value, thus I see no reason for not using it. I just wish to know (and try to fix it) on why it stopped to accept those messages.

curious, the help file on OSX in 0.43.4 never mentions those methods. In addition, looking at the source code for Line reveals that those methods don't exist.
Surely something is wrong with the help file, but I can't imagine why it would be different on linux

Hi, thanks for the reply. This is strange indeed. The "Line~-help.pd" file that came with my 64-bit Linux install (/usr/lib/pd-extended/extra/cyclone) was created on the 12/12/2012 and it looks like this:

Line~ is designed to be a clone of the Max/MSP object line~. The messages stop, pause and resume were never implemented in the pd-object Line~. Someone probably copied the information from the Max documentation.

But it isn't that hard to add these messages and get them working. It works in my test environment (Linux 32-bit).

Yes, sorry. The messages were never part of the Pd-object. They should have been, as it is intended as a clone of the Max/MSP object.
