Couple of days ago I wanted to make a simple sound-on-sound looping delay. Can be done with [delwrite~] and [delread~]. Then it turned out that [delwrite~] has no option to clear the delay buffer!

So here is a patch using some Pd-extended objects like [count~] and [poke~], doing sound-on-sound-looping and with clear button to erase the loop content at once.

1. load your wav into another table and make sure you can play it back with a tabread4~ object

2. replace the adc~ (mic input) with the output of tabread4~

Well... it seems that I found that poke~ is working bad on Linux 64-bits (Ubuntu 12.04). After using this patch (sound-on-sound), the console says:

An operation on the array '1469-looperright' in the patch '1469-looperright'
failed since it uses garray_getfloatarray while running 64-bit!
An operation on the array '1469-looperleft' in the patch '1469-looperleft'
failed since it uses garray_getfloatarray while running 64-bit!

And, you can hear a result of using this patch saying some spanish numbers. The feedback is getting more pitch shifted at any time.

(I arrive to this thread because I need to clear delay line buffers... but, because of this bug, this patch, for the moment, is not a solution)

Sorry for this late reply. Seems I'm not subscribed to my own topic. Indeed [cyclone/poke~] doesn't work on Linux 64 bit currently. There's more bugs in cyclone on 64 bit, but the lib is no longer supported by the original author. As a workaround one could use [ipoke~] which is not in Pd-extended but available from here:

thanks for the patch! already had a lot of fun playing around with it on my polyphonic synth. Still I can't manage to set the loop length properly to for example just loop four notes (120bpm) on time. I tried it while having a metronome running. The first loop is always on time but after it everything gets out of order.
I attached my synth. It's still pretty messy but it's the second thing I did on pd.

Pd-l2ork has had a "clear" method for [delwrite~] for some time now.

Matju posted a simple patch for it on the Pd-list for someone who wanted it. In response to his posting, I did two things: a) pushed for its inclusion in Pd-extended, and pushed for inclusion in Pd-l2ork. Here's how it broke down:

Pd-extended: witness a thread in which Hans and matju argue about who should post the patch on the tracker, listen to the sound of crickets for a few months, argue with IOhannes just to get him to click a button to assign the patch to Miller. Result: after years Pd-extended and Vanilla still don't have a "clear" method for [delwrite~].

Pd-l2ork: forward matju's patch to Ivica. He asks me what it's for. I tell him. He says, "Thanks." Result: Pd-l2ork has a "clear" method for [delwrite~] and I have my sanity.
