Hi all!
I've just implemented pitch and interval class into my live performance system. I'd appreciate any feedback you might have. You can also get me at graham-r9 at email.ulster.ac.uk.

Polyphonic guitar system for linear expression

Well it looks great !
difficult to tell on a video specially for feedback but it's definitely looks promising.
What aspects would help to clarify things? It would be helpful to know for my thesis. Thanks.
Ricky
Nothing specific your videos are quite clear.
The question is, is your patch useable by other people ?
as you want to use algorythms in a live system, does your implementation have meaning for other musicians and what do they manage to get from this in terms of sounds, and creativity ?
How clear is your implementation, is it hackable by other musicians to be adapted to their needs.
Is it transposable easily for other instruments than guitar and other software than live ? (I guess the answer is yes:))
By the way don't hesitate to post a link to your thesis once your done, I'll read that
Thanks for that. I will send on a link to my thesis once it's signed off. I have one more year left to complete the project so it may be a little while yet. I studied Max as part of my undergraduate degree and didn't revisit object orientated programming until recently, so I must confess I'm still relatively new to PD. So, thanks for the kind words.
Meaningfulness in music, especially in performance systems, is really interesting to me and really an important part of the project. I've taken pitch structure as "figurative" gesture (symbolic versus physical effective or ancillary gesture), since pitch structure is meaningful to a pitch orientated instrument. Obvious, but something which I hope will be effective in the long run. This is why I have implemented pitch and interval class. I hope the system will in turn reflect pitch structure in timbral and spatial processes, attributes which are meaningful but often overlooked by traditional players. So I hope the system will encourage musicians to interrogate all available cues.
The system is definitely available to any object that produces pitch and I use Live because I like it. I'm starting to build my own DSP in PD, so that may change in time. I'd be keen to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks again for watching.

Hows this going? Would be really interested to chip in developing it for some other stringed instruments.
It's going well. Just finishing up the dsp end of things in Pd. I've been thinking about making the whole system available shortly to coincide with the release of our polyphonic break out box kits which we (myself and a technician/colleague) have designed. The idea of having multiple people from the puredata community refining and implementing new ideas is very appealing to me. I'll post more info on this very soon.
Update:
Wow. Nice vid. Beautiful and subtle. I hope to have half your Pd skills someday. Great work.
That's very kind. Thanks! The hardware will be available soon: http://rickygraham.com/break-out-box-kits-the-septar-board
Oops! Looks like something went wrong!
