here's a new bug fix release for [vstplugin~] - an external to load VST2 and VST3 plugins on all platforms. Please upgrade!

Binaries can be found on Deken (search for "vstplugin~") or here: https://git.iem.at/pd/vstplugin/-/releases.

Most important changes/fixes:

• fix crash with bridging + multi-threading (regression introduced in v0.5.1)
• bridge/sandbox: allow to write large presets
• cmake: add NATIVE option for native code generation
• cmake: support Apple M1 + x86_64 plugin bridge (see the README for build instructions); no official binaries yet
• new update message, sent when several parameters have changed at once

Sorry @Spacechild1, you're right. I'm working on windows OS, I've just put the vstplugin folder into the /extras folder for Purr data, and tried adding it as a library to the startup window, but doesn't seem to load. Just wondering if you had any experience installing it on Purr Data, I can't tell if I'm going about it the right way, or if it's even possible...I have no experience with compiling, so was hoping to avoid that...maybe this is a question more for @jancsika

Well, you definitely need binaries. But there is a way to avoid compiling from source: use one of the pre-built binaries https://git.iem.at/pd/vstplugin/-/releases

@Spacechild1 Thanks, I'll give this a try. Sorry, really just my first time trying to get externals to work in Purr Data, that's really my problem i guess. Will report back if I get this working.

currently i'm trying to compile vstplugin~ on my Raspberrypi 4. I managed to put the right files from the VST and FST SDKs in the right places, but i'm still getting Errors that say the CPU architecture (that would be 64bit ARM) is not supported. In the Changelog of vstplugin~ v0.5.4 it says ARM compilation is fixed though.
Is it possible to compile on 64 bit arm, or am i doing something wrong?

I think this refers to https://git.iem.at/pd/vstplugin/-/commit/ec1bb344512f1de6819cd2ca06fbfde793393326.

However, ARM support on Linux has been fixed only recently (https://git.iem.at/pd/vstplugin/-/commit/8cbdb1a971e2f4ac48953b9bc7be6370d42ea50f) and not merged into master yet.

Try the latest develop branch, people have successfully built it on RPIs.

unfortunately the airwindows vsts i want to use are build vor 32bit arm so theres the next hurdle. i will just flash a new sd card with a 32 bit operating system an do it all again...

follow up edit:
using 32bit Raspberry Pi OS it all worked out for me, really great!

@Spacechild1 Thanks for this great external. Will you provide an arm64 Apple Silicon compatible external to Deken?
