Dear Pure Data Community,

I have the following patch which contains a subpatch with a simple oscillator running at a frequency of 440Hz.

As you can see, I named my subpatch [pd $1] so that I can change its name from the message. However, I am not able to do it that way.
Could you help me?

@blurryface This is not possible. Dollar variable work differently in objects and messages. Please look that up.

It would be possible with dynamic patching, but is is another story.

Also there is usually no point in renaming subpatches. What are you really trying to achieve?

The only purpose I can think of is to force the sub-patch to only receive messages sent to the new name.
Anyway......
You can do it like this.......... this.pd
You send the message to the old name...... and define the new name....... in the messages at the top.
It will not change the name shown on the canvas [pd my_name], but will change its properties...... see the name change in the window title....... and it will only receive messages sent to the new canvas name.
When you reopen the patch it will be back to the original name......... [pd my_name]

@blurryface Yes, you can send the message [vis 1( to the subpatch using pd-subpatchname as address.
