I'm trying to make a patch that processes MIDI from two Korg controllers and sends it out a loopMIDI port, but when I set MIDI to "Use Multiple Devices", some previously selected output devices in slots 2 and 3 keep coming back when I restart Pd, even when I clear them and "Save All Settings" before exiting. When I look at MIDI settings after starting Pd, it always looks like this:

Why can't I get them to go away? If I set those slots to "none" they stay cleared for the remainder of the Pd session, but they'll be back for the next session. I'm using Win10 and Pd 0.51.2.

There is one way I can make them go away: if I reset enough input and output devices for the dialog box to revert to one input and one output device.

@jameslo I assume that when Pd is reopened and the midi tab is opened it requests a driver list from the OS..... and those drivers are loaded by the OS at boot. There is some doc https://puredata.info/docs/developer/PdStartupOrder that some might understand?

If you don't actually open the midi dialog after restarting Pd are the saved preferred midi slots maintained?

@whale-av If I understand your second question, yes: the loopMIDI port is set for slot one correctly. Slots 2 and 3 are also set as displayed, and if I change them to some other device, those other devices are remembered (and won't go away either). So it's as if once you set a slot != 1 to some device, it can never be set back to "none" until all of them are.

I can see from that doc you linked that these settings are saved in the Windows registry, and appear to be in Computer\HKEY_USERS\<some long alphanum code>\Software\Pure-Data. If I delete the keys midioutdev2, midioutdev3, midioutdevname2, and midioutdevname3, slots 2 and 3 clear. That's good enough for me for now, thanks!
