Due to circumstances beyond my control, I need(ed) to boil down an adsr to one (midi) knob.

So I worked out the logistics to the (maximum) 81 states from the knob by giving each param 1 of 3 states.

However, this being my first synth (the project that requires the limitation), I don't know enough to plug in the three possible values per parameter.

So what I need is...(though,arguably subjective)
a: (good) minvalue, midvalue, maxvalue,
d,s,r etc.

If you could provide me with those 12 numbers, it would Really go a long way to relieving my stress level and moving the project forward.

p.s. doing it this way (i.e. boiling an adsr down to one value), I (currently) see as better, than only being able to change one value (w the knob), but not the other three at all.

@svanya If you dumped the Decay you would get more control over the variation possible, then you just sweep the attack and release opposite of each other, all the way to the left is 0 attack and 1 release, mid rotation would 0.5 attack and release, and 0 attack, 1 release at the other end. Sustain takes care of itself, it is as long as the key is held down. You can add further variation using aftertouch and velocity if you have them, higher velocity shortens the attack and lengthens the release, aftertouch can be used to shorten the release and or decrease/increase the sustain to create decay. Would give a good amount of expression with your simple knob and respond more naturally.

But I need/don't know and can't find anywhere good values (in ms) for the ranges of atttack, decay, and release.
Tried looking in a lot of places for those.

Values depend completely on the range of instruments/sounds you want to mimic, if it is primarily for percussive sounds attack is essentially non-existent and release can be from very short to very long, if it is bowed instruments, they all can be very long, 10 two 20 seconds max was common in classic synths, but some could go very long and were measured in minutes. Or just open some sounds in an audio editor of sounds like you want it to make, see how long their envelop is, use that to give you a range to shoot for,

Does look like there is some variation in those numbers , as both the Stamp Album and the DIY2 libraries have different values for their ranges: adr=0-5000 (SA) and 1-9999(for DIY2) and 0-100 for s (for SA) and 0.1-1 (ie 10-100) (for DIY2).

Glad that I found those. Though it does leave me having to fiddle with the ranges to get decent default values.

As is, i.e. given my system requirements, I have to go the 81 possibilities way. So have decided to include a msg, to leave it up the user to set the 3 values/param (12 values).
