Hi!
I'm looking for an external that could help me doing 360 pannings in a multichannel environment (quad or octophonic). Some stuff I found here in the forums (like https://forum.pdpatchrepo.info/topic/7369/any-idea-who-made-this-4ch-pan or https://forum.pdpatchrepo.info/topic/2930/4-channels-surround-pan) or the CICM library (ambipan~, vbapan~, etc) won't work. Same with the HOA library that I can't get to compile in my Mac OS.

I just need something that could allow me to do 360 degrees panning between 4 or 8 speakers. Any idea of a simple external or any hint to create this? The ideal would be to have some kind of wheel of channels where I can put a sound in any position of the circumference. I can also compromise with a simple h-scroll where I could place the different speakers and do a manual or automated panning moving its slider.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

@prandam There was an object [audience~] in the Pd/extra/unauthorized folder of Pd extended that would let you do this with a mouse.
Here is an extra help file I made for myself that explains it a little more than its help file..... delay_multispeaker_room.pd
but of course you will need [audience~] for it to work.

There is also [grambipan~] by @ricky that you can find here http://rickygraham.net/new-pd-externals-grambipan-and-grambidec which takes audio rate control signals, and looks up to date for OSX.

--maybe they're too old and in an old OSX architecture? I just put the audience~.pd.darwin and audience~-help.pd in the same folder of my patch.

grampipan and grambidec by @ricky sounds just perfect --but the links are broken, couldn't find anything in the authors' website.

HOA looks just great, but I think nobody can run it in Mac nowadays? Somebody knows an alternative?

I can't believe Pure Data doesn't have a proper multi-channel / ambisonic / spatialization library --time to consider Max/MSP? that would suck, lots of work in PD already for this 8-ch installation :'-(

sorry i'm late to the party.. if someone is interested in a vanilla solution, try this abstraction: spat8.zip

you can adjust the speaker positions to fit your setup, in the GUI you'll have to switch to edit mode to drag them around. Two signals x and y determine the position of the sound source in a cartesian plane. This is called distance based amplitude panning (dbab), i guess..
