So I took a few steps back and deleted a bunch of code as it was quickly turning into spaghetti,

I have managed to rewrite the sequencer and metronome but when it comes to automatically saving the state of a toggle to [text -k define $0-sequences] something is wrong.

I can see the state changes If I was to open the object manually but they never seam to write.

Any so of advice is greatly appreciated.

@RetroMaximus Looks good to me. You can see the context of [text] if you click on [text define] when in non-edit mode

Yes I can see the context of [text] and tmpdata does exist. Things go wrong if [r selpatnum] ever changes and is selected again. I should be seeing the new toggle states but it seams to be over writing to its previous state.

@RetroMaximus Maybe a trigger after the spigot can help

Fak I can't wait until I am a few years into puredata. It always seams to be the small things that get me slipped up. But I have slowing down and taking my time with these abstractions and to be honest I'm surprised all that was wring was missing that trigger.

@RetroMaximus Yes, the reason was that the [text] was read to set the toggles and the toggles triggered the previous line of [text] to be rewritten. If you ever only want to set a toggle or other GUI element, you can use the [set $1( message. Then the GUI element changes the state without outputting the value
