I need to replace some text field in a svg.

I use the new pd-48 [text] objet for that and a message with -c flag in order to keep the formating [read -c file.svg(

When I write the svg file out, I use the same -c flag and my file can be read by Inkscape, but semicolon separated field (1) are removed, so it ended with a forgotten text-style parameters:

Is there a workaround this? or I face the limit of the xml-style text-formtating with [text] object in pd?

@60htz Semicolon is always interpreted as carriage return within Pd.
You could do a "search and replace" on the svg file to change ; to some other character before reading the file, and then back again after writing it out.....
In windows I have done this with "jrepl" https://www.dostips.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6044 and automated it in Pd with messages to [system] like this....... (sort of)....
((jrepl is a portable program. Here my message calls a batch file... jrepl.bat.... that runs the jrepl javascript with the parameters I have defined in Pd.
I have not chosen to overwrite the file in this case))

But you cannot even do that because you cannot send the semicolon from Pd.
You could have 2 external batch files that already contain the characters to search and replace, and that you call from the patch to do the job.
I am sure there will be a similar way in other OS's.

One more idea..... as each variable has a descriptor.... you could "just" replace eg "fill-opacity:1" with "fill-opacity:0" directly without importing the file.... using my method above and bypassing the semicolon problem completely.........?
Maybe a little more complex...... ..... you would need to know that it was previously "fill-opacity:1" ...... so you would have to search and replace all possible values....... do-able, but.
There is probably a "wild" character possibility in jrepl.
You might be able to replace all "until the next {;}"......

Thanks for you suggestion, actually I only need to change some text (ex "coucou" in line id="flowPara3352">coucou</flowPara></flowRoot> </g>... )

I guess I really need to leave [text] for that since importing the file would break the semi-colon... other objects like [jasch_lib/detox] or [pofxml] freeze pd when using my xml

I tried with shell and sed command wich is working perfectly inside a terminal, but unfortunately I can't make it work in pd with [shell] object from ggee...

@60htz I am a windows user, but I imagine you would have to make a script, give it permissions, and make it executable, and then run it in [shell]...... or maybe some of that?

Yes, thanks after some hard time... it finally works by calling a script.

The [shell] object in Unix environnment is very different from the Terminal: absolute path needed, root mode needed, and pd "..." string limitation make it a bit painfull!
