Hey guys. I'm happy to announce my first Pd external library, ofelia. https://github.com/cuinjune/ofxOfelia

ofelia is a Pure Data(aka Pd) external library written with openFrameworks for creating cross-platform multimedia applications.

The library consists of over 400 objects covering most features of openFrameworks core API, designed to ease the development of multimedia applications such as visual arts, musical apps and interactive games.

And thanks to the real-time nature of Pure Data, one can make changes and see the result immediately without having to compile.

The library includes the following features:

• interactive output window

• various getters and event listeners

• 2d/3d shapes drawing

• image and font loading

• camera, lighting, material

• framebuffer object

• various data types (vec3f, color..)

• various utilities to speed up development (new expr, counter..)

• bandlimited oscillators and resonant filters

The library is currently available to be used under macOS, Linux(64bit) and Windows. It will also be available on Raspberry Pi soon.

Furthermore, the patch made with ofelia and Pd vanilla objects can easily be converted to a standalone application.
You can share the application with a wide range of audiences including non-Pd users and mobile device users.

Installation

• Make sure you have Pd installed on your desktop.
• Start Pd and go to Help -> Find externals, then search for ofelia
• Select the proper version of ofelia for your system to download and install.

Explore

• Try the example patches inside ofelia/examples directory.
• Open ofelia/help-intro.pd to see the list of built-in objects in ofelia.
• Open the help files to learn more about each object.
• Create something cool and share it with other people.

@cuinjune thanks for the nice library. i try to build a morphing polygon, so far i use ofVertex2d, but i need one object for each point. i want to know if there is an object in ofelia or gem that can create polygons with lists of coordinates? would be much simpler then (i guess). edit: perhaps ofDrawPolyline is the right object?

@cuinjune thanks. the possibility to build standalone applications sounds also very interesting, i will check it out soon. does it mean i have the ofelia window as a standalone application, or also the pure data interface/patch? does it only work for ofelia objects?

@Jona When you run the ofelia patch as a standalone application, you will only see the ofelia graphics window and puredata interface/patch will be invisible.

You can use all Pd vanilla objects and ofelia objects for creating standalone application. You can also add other externals for the standalone applications.
(You just need to include external source file and add _setup() method in ofApp.cpp file)

How to install this in Purr Data?
I tried it in Pure Data 0.49 but i get couldn't create object on every ofelia object even though PD claims ofelia is loaded.
Anyway i think Purr Data will be my distribution of choice so i'm interested in running ofelia with it.

Version 2.0 or 2.0.1 doesn't work for me neither, but 1.0.8 works in every pd distributions... I wish video objets will be available soon so it will replace the old Gem library and I could use it in my workshops!

@keynell @60htz I'm sorry for the delay. I've been busy working on other stuff for a while. Now I'm going to work on creating help files and examples for ofelia 2.0.

The new version covers all features of openFrameworks 0.10.0 core API so you will be able to use video features too. However, I should note that the new version may not be directly compatible with the previous version. So the patches you created in ofelia 1.0 may not just work on 2.0.

Anyways, I will try to release the new version as soon as possible and I will post here when I do.
Until then, please use ofelia 1.0.8 instead.

@cuinjune I've just been playing around with it and this is BIG man! I've spend the last few weeks getting GEM to work on newer OS X's with streaming video, getting blobs etc. and it's been some frustrating process getting it all to work. Now this comes along and it does everything i want, just like that! Plus we get a nice scripting language inline to boot! A Big Thanks!

I can't run ofelia version v3.1.0 installed from deken
PD 0.5-2 on Debian 10.
I installed all Debian dependencies using the scripts included in openframeworks source code

When I run any help file or example
console says:

libglew is installed in my system

When I run Debian scripts included in ofelia's deken versión it gives me an error message, because libgles1-mesa-dev is not available on Debian sources.

@oscarsantis I managed to install ofelia on debian buster by changing a library in the dependecies file and adding some symlinks. I described this method here: https://github.com/cuinjune/Ofelia/issues/11#issuecomment-615097745.

But mind the comment of IOhannes (umlaeute) and only do this at your own risk!

I prefer to be patient and wait for a deken release that runs fine on Buster.
Now to work with Ofelia is not a life or death issue.

Perhaps the description from @Cuinjune from the Github link above does work too:
"This is how I could build ofelia on Rapbian Buster.

Install openFrameworks 0.11.0 following the link in the above comment.

In ofxOfelia/libs/ofxLua/src/bindings/glmbindings.cpp,
comment out the following line:
#include <glm/gtc/functions.hpp>

Find and open config.make in both LinuxExample and LinuxExternal and then find and change
-Os to -O2

Now compile using make"

I cannot confirm if it works, because I do not have Debian Buster, but I compiled it for Ubuntu which was quite easy.
