I've been learning and using pd lately cause I want to make with the raspberry pi a portable sampler and audio processor. The patch works pretty good manually triggered inside the patch but I want to make an external program for the raspberry pi with a nice user interface to be able to control the patch and make nice visual elements for it.

I've been reading about libpd and seems to be a good solution to make the program in c++ or python including the puredata in it as a library with libpd, but I didn't found specific tutorials aiming to the raspberry pi...

Has anyone made this on the raspberry pi? Any tips, tutorials or resources?

My intention is to make vu meters for the samples to see the volume and clipping of the samples, and change the color of the selected samples if something changes in them, like green for playing, gray for muted etc... And finally a time meter in form of arcs for monitoring the time of each sample.

Is possible with this framework to pass this information from puredata to python and work on a python gui? What intrigues me the most is the fact of passing continuous data to python and show it in the GUI, like a volume meter that changes continuously.

For the moment I'm taking lessons of object-oriented programming in python, so for the moment I'm looking for something simple to implement cause I'm using python to control the logic flow of the system and puredata as the sound engine.

@JackPD ofxPd is c++ it's not pyhon. But yes you can send data back and forth to and from pd.

@whale-av Yes, I've seen this post and I succesfully send data to puredata, but I still haven't found how to send a vumeter signal from puredata to python... I've done the pdrecieve function, and then I don't know how to extract the data from pdrecieve to a python variable...

This is what I want to do in my python gui. Anyone did something similar in python or other languages from a puredata patch?

@Johnny-Mauser Because pd's GUI toolkit is too limited and static for my objectives, I want to make an "embedded" system with an user responsive GUI, easy to read, with material design, scalable, with smooth transitions etc...

For the moment I'm using pd to test the program, but I want to make something more responsive and appealing to the eye as well as functional.

Seems interesting what LiamG did with puredata, pretty impressive. For the moment I'm working arround netsend / netreceive in puredata and pdsend and pdreceive in python, this tutorial shows how to send messages from python to puredata via os commands:

But now I'm stuck figuring out how to arm the pdreceive function to be able to receive messages from puredata in my python script.
Any idea about it?
