I am trying to move to Pd - vanilla 47.1 on a mac.

I had been using extended for years. One example of something that I am unable to do is get counter working on 47.1.

What am I doing wrong? I can see that it looks like I have to load a library to use something. . . as simple as counter? Do I need to download a library of tools?

@raynovich I've never seen the difference in color in the inputs/outputs in vanilla, I don't think it's possible to change that but if it is I'd be very curious to know how!

It aims to make the Pd-extended libs available by default, plus extend the usability improvements that Pd-extended began.

[counter] loads by default, and something close to the Pd-extended xlet color schemes are in the default GUI theme.

Is there an easy way to make the input and outputs for vanilla like extended?

I asked about this on the list once, and unfortunately there is basically no way of changing the look of Vanilla objects. You'll get used to it soon enough though.

Next problem today: when I try to insert numbers into canvases using the message method it does not seem to work. Is this really a difference? How annoying?

This does not work. However,

does work. Is this really a change?

Can purr data work on macOS 10.12? It looks like the latest release is for 10.11.

Numbers don't work in labels because they are interpreted as floats, not symbols. There are two solutions to this:

1. Use [list2symbol] from zexy.

   [; canvas label $1(

2. Use a non-breaking space to create a symbol. A non-breaking space is a character that looks like a space but acts like a regular character. Here it is between the quotation marks: " " (assuming it copies correctly). You can use it like this (there is a non-breaking space right after the $1.)

[> 1 \
|
[; canvas label $1 (

If the text doesn't copy from this window correctly, you can find the non-breaking space in your OS character map.

OK, so that makes sense, but the variable formatting for what you have does not seem to work either. . . $1 that is. . . . .
