Hey folks,

when loading my mainpatch recently all connections in it were missing (in subpatches objects are still connected) and my abtractions are also missing.

I was recently saving arrays (short sound samples) in a subpatch but it seemed fine although i got warnings about saving arrays (btw. where are they stored?); could that made it behave like this?
I deleted some arrays in the subpatch (that was strangely enough open but not anymore visible in the mainpatch) but as far as i can grasp it is not recoverable.

Why and how can this happen? Please lend me some rationale on this. Where is the code that produces such tremendous behaviour?

In future projects i'll work much more modular in order to make recovering easier..

I can only answer to the question as to where the array elements are being saved. They are saved inside the patch. If you want to test it, create a new patch and put an array in it, and save its contents. Then open the patch inside a text editor (pd patches are just text) and you'll see the saved values there.

@noise The sub-patches and arrays are stored inside the patch that contains them.
Abstractions are other patches that can be opened within the patch that they are "drawn" in, but have to be saved separately.
When you have a sub-patch visible and you save it you are actually saving the patch that "contains" it, and so you have to be careful (and of course when you save the patch it's sub patches are saved within it............ but the abstractions it contains are not re-saved if they have been edited.).
If connections are missing it is because the object that they connect to....... maybe an abstraction.... cannot be found, or dynamically created inlets or outlets within that abstraction have not been created, or have not been created before the lines are being drawn. Usually this happens because you have moved the abstractions somewhere outside of Pd's known path preferences, or you have zipped everything into a compressed folder.
The connection lines inside the patch are still there (e.g. #X connect 4 1 2 0;) but they cannot be drawn because the objects they connected to cannot be drawn.
So you should not need to rebuild your main patch.
You need to find out why Pd. cannot find the abstractions. Maybe it has lost it's path preferences?

Thanks for your fast response. Before i posted i already searched the forum for a similar situation but could not find anything like the thing described.

Well i thought there might be a limit to what you can store (eg. as an array) inside a patch; why else would pd clear the save-content-flag and warn me if i manually choose to save it nonetheless after loading a soundfile into an array?
(i rebuild everything so far and do now load each file on loadbang instead of storing it inside the patch and put everything inside separate abstractions; furthermore regular backups are our friends)

@whale-av: I neither compressed it nor changed a path; i've got everything inside one big directory stored. From the file i cannot see why it cannot be loaded.
