Haha.... ok now that I have your attention, [pix_contrast] is slow because of what I am doing with it...

After [pix_contrast], I have [repeat] and four [separator]. Once I have [repeat] at around 12 and up, adjusting [pix_contrast] parameters becomes unbearably slow...

I am trying to find a way to adjust color, brightness, etc in real time...

The only thing that works smoothly so far is [world_light]....this is because it is a global effect, applied afterwards(yes?)

I have been looking for weeks for other global effects like this, and trying to come up with my own solutions......no joy as of yet.

To be clear, this is not a problem with my processing speed etc, as I already use video intensive software with no problems using much more intense effects..

Any ideas or advice? I hope my query is clear...ask me for clarifications if necessary.

@lovelovevideo Are you using [pix_texture] or the considerably slower [pix_draw]?
But anyway....... not really understanding, especially how you are using [repeat] ....... could you post it?

@whale-av [pix_texture] !! as you will see..depthexpa.pd

load an image and turn [repeat] up to like 12 or more and try to adjust the contrast....it freezes a bit.....there is a second [repeat] in the patch, however, this problem occured before I had put it there....

@lovelovevideo My extended on win7 is smooth as silk for the contrast with 200 repeats of the output of [pix_alpha]...... and then starts to stutter as the repeat of the second separator gets above 10 (as you say). The post separator repeat is far more expensive, as it is a multiplier of the first........ and the other chains are waiting.....
There might be a solution that savages me in the night..... but in the light of day I cannot see it......

@whale-av Thanks so much for testing...wow,200?? Maybe indeed it is my laptop then........I am on Windows 8 using extended, but I doubt being on 8 could make such a big difference..

edit: on the included cpu load meter, it spikes to 310 percent when i make a contrast adjustment, from 6 percent before the adjustment..

@lovelovevideo at 200 and 10 for the repeats mine can jump to cpu166, but it's still good to go....
Check your audio settings maybe (as audio is always processed first) and then maybe tune your pc (an extremely worthwhile exercise!).... see here for free and excellent advice........

@whale-av been thinking about responding to you, then I saw your message about my other topic....

I think it must be related to my laptop as i tried at 200 and 10 the Load Meter registers 14000 percent!!!! The 310 figure I had mentioned before was with only 28 on the first repeat alone...

Could you confirm for me if you are on a desktop or laptop?

And other pders, feel free to test...I`d be very interested to 'hear' the results...

on the other hand, adjusting [color] (the alpha channel) has a neglible effect on cpu usage for me...

@lovelovevideo I just played around with your patch again. I am using extended (usually) under windows 7 on a mid 2012 MacBook Pro I7.
I removed some of the seperators to see what is really going on and when I created a spiral of images it made me think of where I had seen that before........

Check out the folder "pd/extra/Gem/examples/13.recursion" in all its glory.......... and especially 01.repetition_is_futile.pd and 03.recursive_spiral.pd......
and you will be able to solve the problem........
You are probably creating way too many tiny and actually invisible fragments.....

@whale-av Heyy, could you confirm that you indeed loaded a picture when testing this out?

since then I tested this on a macbook pro I7(like the one you used) and on my new Alienware R5 with a GTX 1070 and little improvement..

However, when no image is loaded, smooth as silk as you said..

I have noticed a huge improvement in visual perfomance since the acquistion, except for this.....
