Haha, I just made practically that exact same abstraction (scale_abs). Wish I saw that post an hour ago. It works very nice, but an explanation may help others...

inlets from left to right:
1. number input
2. old low
3. old high
4. new low
5. new high

and you can change any of these parameters on the fly!
