been away for awhile, both from this list and from PD, but recently got a little asus netbook and installed eeebuntu base 3.0 and upgraded to karmic 9.10.
I notice that one can easily install Pd vanilla through the system itself, and I've been using Pd long enough to know which libraries I need and which I don't. So my question is which is a better choice for an inexperienced linux user, install vanilla and add the libraries I use often and need, or install a version of extended, and if that's the case, which version is best for karmic 9.10? Thanks.

    hi,
I'm assuming this will be something obvious that I am just not seeing, but the attached patch is a simple osc player for 3 speakers where I want to decrease the vol at each pulse over a course of time. I want the counter to decrease the level by .01 each pulse...
works fine manually (just bang " [dec ( " to see this in action), but when the patch is activated by the start bang in upper left the counter does not count at a .01 interval, but instead seems to double this increment each time..am I missing something?

thanks so much for applying another brain/eye combo to this one..

has anyone used this attached object?
    I don't know where I found it..
but it doesn't seem to work for me. seems that it doesn't create the matrix~ object at it's core. saw some posts about multiple objects from different libraries using a matrix~...

    thanks..

    db

    correction:
it does create the matrix~ object.....so what's up? anyone ever use this? is there a matrix mixer that some one has implemented? i've been looking around to no avail..

    hi list,
I am having trouble editing the search paths on extended .40.3 on OS X 10.4.9..
I don't recall this ever happening before, but I can't edit the path to point to different libraries, basically cannot access the contents of Pd.app when prompted. Anyone have this problem?

    thanks,

    db

    edit:
so my main problem is that I cannot load GEM, reason: image not found...
when I add other libraries to the startup, they load fine, and the path is changed, however, GEM will not load via this method, any ideas?
in the contents of Pd->rescources->extras---- there is a GEM.pd.darwin file, should this be placed somewhere else?

I am trying to make a selection object for 12 outputs where only two are active at a given time. I have noticed that [dac~] does not take set messages, so what are some ideas for dealing with this?
right now I am using 12 [dac~] and 12 corresponding [*~] with 1's or 0's in the right inlet...

    to elaborate:
a sample is selected and then bangs a generator that selects two numbers between 1 and 12 thus enabling those two outputs for that sample, so....when the next sample comes around, and another set of numbers is randomly chosen (via xrandom so nothing repeats) which activate a new pair of outputs and disables the previous pair.
my problem is turning off the previous pair, so that only 2 outputs remain active at any given time.

thanks for any ideas or suggestions...

    hello,
I am not a programmer and have been having trouble installing objects, and my searching this forum and the list haven't yielded clear results. I am on .39.3 and an intel mac. found space~ and wanted to install it, but where do I put the darwin file? I tried putting it in the Pd application plug-in zone to no avail. Is there another step to compiling externals like this? I attached what I downloaded..

    hello,
someone posted this patch some time ago in response to a query I had about overdubbing. It's a very clever solution to the problem and it works for my needs, but I consisently hear a click when the sample repeats, and this point slides slowly out of phase over time (i am doing really long samples with this, like 90 seconds overdubbing for an hour). Is there something in the arguments of [threshold~] that will address this? Or is there something I can add to this patch to address that? Thanks to anyone who takes a moment to look it over...it is set as a 5 sec sample now, just bang it at the top to start the cycle..

    thanks again,

hello, can someone please help me with this attached fragment of a patch..
I am building an abstraction that contains a segment where there buffer size needs to be changed before a process begins, but I am having trouble changing the size AND changing the array (inputing the $0-table..) I can do one or the other, but not both as I need to. I hope this makes sense.

    thanks,

    hello,
How does one store information (audio) in arrays and have it pre-loaded each time the patch loads? Right now I am using:

    [loadbang]
    |
[read -resize blah labh blah array(
    |
    [soundfiler]

which works, but is there a cleaner way? When I use "save contents" it doesn't save for the next opening of the patch.

    thanks,

    hello,
I find many useful patches that are in text format, I read somewhere that you can just change the extension to .pd and it will open as a patch. However, when I try this I get errors:

    #X no such object..

I am on .39.3 extended intel mac.

would greatly appreciate any advice. I searched around this forum and on the pd list to no avail.

    thanks

I'm having trouble getting [playlist] to function as I think it functions....
when I give it an argument to point to a folder of samples, nothing shows up in that folder that actually contains a bunch of short .wavs.....?..
am I mistaken in thinking this extern is for soundfiles? or am I just missing something.
I have been searching for this problem to no avail so I am hoping someone uses this a lot and can give a clear explanation of it's purpose, the help-file is kind of obtuse to me.

my hope was to use this tool to store a collection of samples to be accessed and played back randomly.

    thanks,

this list is really invaluable to me, and I suspect many others starting to learn Pd and continuing to advance. One thing I really dig is that some questions just don;t get answered, and that's because the answer is out there if you keep looking and you feel better finding it that way. Tough Love.

    cheers,

    hello all,
I am new(ish) to pd and in no way an expert...so bear with this...
I got this patch, ngrid, from obiwannabe and it's pretty much exactly what I have been thinking of for a 5 osc controller on one grid...really simple...x values for frequency and y values for level to begin with....but I don't quite understand how to change the values on this grid. Does anyone know who built this, has anyone used it?
It has a lot of potential, especially in terms of automation. The [tow] is really cool but I don't have a help file for it..anyhow, any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Included is the file I got from obi, it's pretty mashed up so understand if no one wants to dig through it, but any leads on where to find info would be great.

    hello all,
I am experimenting with simple automation on grid; the attached patch moves the point back to zero/middle of grid at a fixed speed and I would like to be able to adjust this speed on the fly....but my attempts have thus far failed, does anyone have any suggestions? I think I am overlooking something very simple.

    thanks

are there mouse objects for Pd? I thought there were, but have not been able to find them in my search of this forum...
something that could, say, make the mouse a controller by using it's position to control amplitude or the timbre of noise or the pitch of a sine wave?

also, I have been reading past posts about hardware controllers, arduino in particular, and I recently was given a CREATE usb board by a friend....
does anyone have an thoughts about these devices and which one is perhaps better suited and easiest to implement as a very very simple sample controller?
I use live samplers. Built two that work great in Pd, and want to have some external controllers for them as in:

    5 buttons
    6 endless rotary knobs

    times two....

I think the CReate usb is well suited for this, but I have noticed that arduino is most often mentioned by pd users....so i thought I would ask for any advice before soldering..

    thanks.

    hey,
just had another thought that i intended to mention...
usb/firewire mixers....has anyone experimented with these as controllers?

    hello,
haven't had any problems at all with Pd until today, last night I installed a path to a couple of externals, everthing was working..
this morning, Pd can not open any windows; Path, Startup, Audio, etc, New, Open...nothing...and it just immediatly overloads my CPU....
anyone have this problem in the past? I tried removing and reinstalling, but the issue remains....
    needless to say, a disappointment..

    hi,
just posted about panning, and then found a spacialisation package from CCIM that includes [vbapan~], [ambipan~], etc. etc....
    good stuff it seems..
however, I am a new user and have yet to install externals (correct?) like this that I have downloaded outside of the extended package I have installed.
Can someone give me a rundown of this process please, I really don't know where to begin, maybe I just drag the folder somewhere, maybe it is more complicated...
I am on an intel mac...
    thanks a million,

    hi,
a basic question about looping tables that have material in them from a live [adc~] inlet:
I have been playing with the audio examples and modified one to take a contact mic input, but I can't get my head around the [phasor~] object and the role it plays in the loop. Most importantly, how is the frequency of the loop altered so that the entire table plays? I have seen some post on here asking this question before, but haven't been able to solve this or find an answer. I am new to Pd and really appreciate any help, and I have attached the patch I am working with (modified from b.09)
thanks again for any hints or directions at this.
    db

    edit:
    was playing some with this and thought I should clarify some things;
I know this patch looks a little jacked up, and that there is something important in the multiplier that I need to get around, it is just a study patch..
Also, my main goal is to be able to record 0 to 2min of sound and loop it..pretty simple, but presenting problems for me.
    thanks again.

I am loading samples of different lengths into a play/loop device (for now just modified from looper.pd) and I am curious if it possible to have the hsliders I am using for loop length and loop start change when a new sample is loaded so that the maximum value is synced with the end of the new sample? they are very different lengths anywhere from 25 sec to 2 min.....and above and below..
    thanks for any help.
