Hallo gentle people
I am a relative newcomer to Linux, but I have already successfully installed applications such as Processing and Arduino that don't use an 'auto installer', using the Terminal Window. Despite following the instructions in INSTALL.txt I cannot get pd (0.46-7) installed. I extract the src.tar.gz, then navigate to that directory; and then I type:
sudo ./configure,ac and am prompted with:
sudo: ./configure: No such file or directory
If I try to run ./autogen.sh, I get:
./autogen.sh: line 22: autoreconf: command not found

Elsewhere on the 'net, including here, this is as best or as far as the advice goes.

Please help, any Linux peeps out there

Never used Fedora, but in order to compile Pd, first you need to have automake and libtool. Maybe the following command will do it for you:
apt-get build-dep puredata
Actually you need to install the build-dep anyway, so try with this, and if it still fails, install automake and libtool separately.

I would hazard a guess that the autotools hadn't generated the configure script yet, so maybe autoconf before ./configure?

good to see you on the forum Brendan, I still think about quantized modulation a bunch. Have a good one.

Thanks for the input - I should have mentioned that I rely on RPM to handle my repositories/installs. But the GNOME Terminal is usually quite forgiving, with hints/tips etc; I'll try @Alexandros' advice.

Hey Monetus,LOL, and thanks for the welcome and advice. I successfully installed pd-extended a few weeks back (can't recall how I got it to run though - I think RPM took care of it (??) - **and guess what synth I built first?? **Chaos FM ; )

Ok, so I installed automake and libtool sepearately; both the autogen.sh and configure.ac files unloaded fine when I ran them, but the final command 'make' generated a whole lotta text ending with the following:

../libtool: line 1737: g++: command not found
Makefile:699: recipe for target 'pd' failed
make[2]: *** [pd] Error 127
make[2]: Leaving directory '/home/brendan/Documents/pd-0.46-7/src'
Makefile:925: recipe for target 'all-recursive' failed
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/brendan/Documents/pd-0.46-7'
Makefile:825: recipe for target 'all' failed
make: *** [all] Error 2

Maybe I need to take this to a Fedora forum ? ?

The first line of what you posted says that your system doesn't have the g++ compiler, which libtool ask for (?). The rest are error that I'm sure exactly sure what they mean, but maybe they are a result of the very first line. Try to install that compiler and give it another shot.

Thanks again @Alexandros; I took the easy way out and just installed the pd-extended repository from PlanetCCRMA - it self-installs. A persistent annoying error in the print window says "Gem-can't find library/pdp-can't find library". I'm not too concerned, as I use pd etc fro audio only.
