Hi guys, I have a bit of a strange problem that I've been dealing with for some time now. I can't seem to find a real fix for it. I've found the exact same problem here which was allegedly fixed with an update, but I still experience the exact same thing. I don't have jackdmp installed as far as I know. I'm running win7 with an RME soundcard.

I'll start up PD, and it should have ASIO selected (since that's what I last used), instead it'll show a check next to MMIO. I click ASIO, set the settings back to how they should be (this all gets reverted back to default for some reason) and click OK.

Suddenly, neither MMIO nor ASIO are checked. When I select ASIO and then go to audio settings, the device list is suddenly empty

I can however turn on MMIO and get sound out of the speakers. But I need ASIO. Usually I just fiddle around for an hour or so, and suddenly it'll work out of nowhere (reboot or reinstall doesn't change a thing). Can't wrap my head around this one and it's seriously frustrating.

If anyone has any idea, all suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Yes, Pure Data is a little difficult (like a small child) about its audio settings. They have to be absolutely correct to avoid problems, and recovery from even slightly incorrect settings can be difficult.
You could run this batch file (unzip the whole folder and run the "bat" file)
Pd Fix (Windows).zip
That will set Pd to work (for the audio!!) as you found it when you first downloaded.
Now you should be able to select the RME asio driver. I would recommend using Asio4All though, as then you can add other asio devices and even your laptop speakers and microphone to your setup...........http://tippach.business.t-online.de/asio4all/

So now you should be able to select asio and set it up correctly. If the "Mediasettings" "Audio setup" window does not accept your settings immediately when you click "apply" or "ok" then they are wrong and you will be back where you started. Run the batch file again to get out of the mess.

Once you have it all working properly you should write down all of the settings. You can then start Pd from a batch file built specially for your RME setup, and another for when it is not connected.... come back to this (your) thread for help when you need it!

@whale-av Thanks a lot for the elaborate reply! I wanted to try out your fix, but I checked PD to see if the problem hadn't fixed itself, and lo an behold... It suddenly works again without a problem. So strange...

So I'll hang on to your script for now, if I run into the problem again I'll try it out!

Just for the record, these are my settings now which work without a prob. For this specific setup I really only need the RME, but thanks for the suggestion anyway

@alex_d That's great!
You might find that you have problems if you start Pd without the fireface connected...... so be careful! especially if you are moving your computer and soundcard off to a new venue for a show.
If you have problems getting it back your batch file would look (something) like this........
RME.zip
DO NOT run it now. You would have to right-click-edit it, put your patch name at the end, and edit the path that you see inside to your folder with your patch, and then it (might) force Pd back to where it is now (if you have a problem!).........
Unzip... right-click.......edit if you want to have a look at it's contents.
P.S. the "- audiooutdev" and "- audioindev" numbers are counted from zero as you would see them when choosing them from the Pd menu.........

@whale-av Awesome, thanks a bunch! It might have something to do with that. The RME has an on/off switch so perhaps I should always turn it on before booting my pc. I'll bookmark this thread in case I run into trouble in the future!
