Lately ive just been using ShareX to screencap the GEM window but that tends to be a bit heavy on my system and may cause issues in the future. I've been playing with the idea of having the video data streamed over localhost for VLC to capture but I haven't actually attempted it yet.
What method do you guys think would be the best for my setup? (4+ year old toshiba laptop, intel core i3 processor with shoddy integrated gpu)

if you use GEM to record, maybe your framerate drops damatically, but that shouldn't matter, if you just want to record the stuff (no showing live same time) since you anyway record each frame and can play it back later at any speed. Does it make sence?

say I'm wanting to use puredata to apply some visual effects to a video file, is there a way i can make sure that it doesn't skip any frames when im using pix_record and make sure it retains the same framerate as the input video file?

I recently came across Syphon, software for routing video between programs in a way similar to soundflower and audio. It has a plugin for PD and a video recorder. I haven't used it a ton, but seems promising for logging video from GEM.

@TerraByteTech you can let the gemhead bang a framecounter, that way every frame should be processed. I think to autoplay funktion should also work. i don't remember how to influence the recordfile, but i think i just records every frame, so the worst could be to change framerate afterwards in any video app.

@abbernstein i never got syphon to work. Did you do anything special for it? I now tried again, pd-console gave me this:

Just looked into syphon again. Finally made it work with the link from syphon website. And it it MUCH faster to record gemwin that way!!
