I am totally new to Pure Data, so could really use a little bit of help getting started. Well, I have a starting point: I would like to use this Pure Data patch to create some wavetables for an Axoloti DSP synth:

wavetablemaker.pd

The author of the patch (Tim Vets) wrote this to me:

"you're missing 2 external objects; tabdump and drip (both part of zexy)
and one abstraction; list-accum (part of list-abs)
if you have a recent enough version of pd, you can find these via
Help>find externals
and search for "zexy" and "list-abs" there."

... But the version of Pure Data(d-0.46-7-64bit.app) I am using does not have that feature. Can anyone tell me, in a not too tecchnical manner how I install those expansions? ANd also is the version I am running the latest?

@jaffasplaffa Hi, even if this version of pd is unmaintained you should use pd-extended to get all the externals / abstractions:
https://puredata.info/downloads/pd-extended

There's a new system to get externals from pd-vanilla called deken but I don't know if it works on Mac.

I have installed Xquartz and PD-Extended. But when I turn DSP on I get:
"Audio I/O error"

And there is no sound from the patch( I have done the start test and tested that PD sound works).

Oh and yes, I am on Mac. And I am still not sure I have those enpansions installed. The "find externals" is still not located in Help.

I tried downloading zexy-2.2.4.tar.gz and install manually, but when I run the ./bootstrap.sh I get this error:

./zexy.h:51:10: fatal error: 'm_pd.h' file not found

Any Mac users here?

HI! Deken is a "plugin" that you need to install before it will show up in Pd. And yes, it does work for pd-vanilla on a Mac. I use it all the time! Here's the download page with directions: https://github.com/pure-data/deken

Essentially, just download the zip, unzip it, and put the files into a specific directory. Then, restart pd and it will show up. Let me know if you need more help!

Hmm are your audio settings configured correctly? These can be found under Media > Audio Settings. Makes sure your input/output boxes are ticked and your audio devices (built in or otherwise) are listed. It also might be helpful if you post your patch!

Thanks for the input. I will check what you wrote about audio settings. But I did do the start test and checked that PD audio is working. I did post the patch in the first post i made. It is called wavetablemaker.pd

But I just got a new version with tablesize implemented. And it is the same result

Now I just checked the audio and it works with some of the tutorial patches... And also the test tone works . But as soon as I load that patch I get the Audio I/O error. And a few other error.

I also got deken installed and the list-abs and zexy from find externals.

@jaffasplaffa Ah this is because the author used the object [dac~ 7 8] for his or her output. Right click anywhere on the box with the volume slider, find the [dac~] object, and change it to [dac~ 1 2] and reconnect any cables. BE SURE TO TURN YOUR VOLUME DOWN BEFORE DOING SO.
