Hi all,

I've had a startup problem with Pd today - it wouldn't open. Tried all reinstalls etc to no avail. Eventually saw the command line error about MidiIn devices out of range. Connected all Midi devices to it and it opened but with more errors. I'd connected multiple midi devices the day before so maybe it was this.

Anyway, I now have the following in command line error:

waveInOpen: A device ID has been used that is out of range for your system.
open: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Pd/gem.conf: No such file or directory

open: C:\Users\A hart\AppDatazRoaming\Pd/gem.conf: No such file or directory
open: ./gem.conf: No such file or directory

Anyone seen this before? Gem seems to be working. Is it just that it's looking for it in different places?

The Gem errors are normal because Pd looks for Gem configuration files in the Pd folder, and then in your personal "windows transportable settings" folder.......... but doesn't need them, and they are not there.......http://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/2009-12/074880.html
waveInOpen out of range probably means that your Media/Audio Settings is looking for an audio device that is missing, and you might need to set up your audio again...
Pd is a bit fussy about its audio connections.

Thanks for your reply David. I'm still not sure why the problem occurred in the first place but it's good to know that these messages aren't a cause for concern
