I'm new to the pd forums and I have a question:

I'm using [edge~] to register zero crossings of a [osc~] and to trigger bangs dynamically.
Because I want to use that patch with libpd, I was wondering, if there is any way to get this working just using vanilla pd elements?

if all you need to do is detect 0 crossings perhaps you could use [threshold~ 0 0 0 0]

One more question: What is the difference to the [edge~] object? Doesn't they do the same?

[edge~] seems to detect when a signal goes from 0 to any nonzero number, whereas [threshold~] detects when a signal goes from less than 0 to greater than or equal to 0. So if you were to use some pd vanilla [edge~] to detect 0 crossings you would also need a replacement for a [<~ 0] object (which is in zexy) to use before [edge~]. Mod managed to make these signal relationals in pd vanilla awhile ago but just using [threshold~] is simplest

Hi all, is there a straightforward vanilla replacement for [edge] (non-audio signal)?

This would bang whenever the sign of the most recent number differs from the last number received, which is what [edge] is for, no?

Thank you, your suggestion worked like a charm. Went with the above, except [> 0]
