Hi all,

I have some difficulties in figuring out how to correctly format MIDI notes on the pd's out. My sequencer is running in pd, sending note messages through [noteout] like this:

I connected pd's Midi out to the some percussion VST in my DAW. Everything sounds and works fine, but when I try to record the midi notes coming into DAW, only the first note is recorded, although it is clearly visible and audible that DAW is receiving notes constantly.
Has anyone experienced such problem?

Maybe try another DAW or something instead of pd to see where the problem is hidden..

but that is not an option... because I can record midi notes from another source (midi keyboard or sequencer) into the same DAW without any problem. It must be some catch in pd. Probably, I need to pack more information along with note on/off + velocity messages through the [noteout].

Oh, wait maybe don't use [noteout] but [midiout]. That's raw midi-data. [notein/out] is rather a pd-speciality if I'm not mistaken.. And your DAW seems to dislike it..

can you route the notes coming into the MIDI track into another track and then record on the second track. So track 1 plays the synth with MIDI notes from PD. Track 2 records the MIDI notes routed to it from Track 1. I think I had some kind of an issue like that before and that's how I got around it. Didn't make much sense to me but it worked... maybe for you too... or maybe it is something else.

yes, I tried [midiout] too, but without success.

Unfortunately, I didn't find that option in my DAW.

On the part of patch in your first post, there is nothing connected to the third inlet of the [makenote] object. The third inlet is is used for defining note duration. If it is also missing in the real patch, it is possible that all notes have zero duration.

Thanks Krex, but note duration isn't an issue here.

I'm having almost this exact issue now. Sending MIDI from PD to ProTools, then into a VST. Sounds fine when I'm playing, but when I go to record, the timing and durations are all screwy. Did you ever find a solution? I've been working on this problem for days and it's killing my creativity!!!

@bradfordcraig If it sounds fine when playing then the midi must be arriving correctly in ProTools (I guess?...... but could be wrong of course!).
Is ProTools set to quantize?
Delay compensation set?
Pd is not sending any time-code (I think) so nothing is time-stamped...... and protools is just recording in "step mode" I imagine....... note after note with equal spacing.
In your other posts...... maybe passing through another midi software time-stamps the midi notes.... and then all is fine?
Garageband is OK...... so maybe there is an equivalent setting in ProTools to force ProTools to time-stamp its midi input?
