I'm new to algorithms and looking for some assistance.

Just want a simple one that is an additive process. 1 - 1, 2 - 1, 2, 3 - 1, 2, 3, 4.

Not exactly sure how to do this. I tried messing about with a counter that keeps resetting itself at different times, but could not seem to get it to work.

Any help is appreciated.

I'm sure that there is a more elegant solution, but here are two similar approaches that I thought up last night when I missed my train and had time to kill. Note that you don't have to add 1 every time, but that value could change on the fly.

I'm not sure what the meaning of the dashes vs. commas is: if you want to accumulate those values each time or continue stepping up the pattern. I put a solution for both in the attached patch.

The counting solution is complicated by the fact that a) you have to reset the first counter at the end of each pattern and for a decent ui you have to automatically bang out the next value when you get a zero (otherwise the user would have a "dud" click at the end of every pattern).

But my counting method still looks awfully complicated for what it's doing, especially compared to the accumulation patch. Is there a shorter way to achieve this?
