hi everybody,

if you look at the nicknames here in the forum and on the pd-list, you will notice the presence of some active italian pd users but most of the time it turns out they're studying or researching abroad. there is also a website for the italian community but the forum looks abandoned and the site itself is lacking of updated contents.

so, in case you are an italian pd user, where are you from exactly and what do you know about the current italian pd scene?

we are not so few. It's true puredata.it is a bit abandoned mainly because based on the activity of two users. Also the manteiner of the italian forum is a strong max user and that also bad influenced the forum activity I think. BTW there are many pd-users very actives in the international scene trying to push the local one to. Xname and Me, with some hacklab in Rome organized first puredata workshop and it was very participated. Sad is pushing his work with Xthsense device (puredata based) very far with important international results. GabroralComplex here published his amazing XmiX software.
It's true that many italian pd-users I know don't live in Italy since long time, but we always try to help, write documentation and help community make itself stronger.

husk, what you say about puredata.it makes totally sense, if you look at the last three events they posted on the website you'll see they are all about vvvv and jitter which is a bit depressing if you ask me. also the art schools in italy, like accademia di brera, are really max-centric at the moment.

i'm aware of what the italian community is doing with pd on the internet and this is great of course, but i was more curious about real life meetings, pd party and stuff. there is a patching circle happening somewhere? like they do in berlin?

i would be more than happy to teach pd and help people to spread the word, but how? i'm glad to hear about the workshop you held in rome – you are from rome, right? – but i'm living in milan now and apparently there's not much going on here.

alistair, what is happening in bologna? are there events or meetings for pd users? how many are you?

I'm not from Rome but I was living there for a while (like in many others places )
I don't live in italy and like me many others experts pd users. For this reason I belive there is any pd-circle like the berlin one (that is very good btw). With no expert users is very hard to start a pd-circle. Why don't you try to run one in MIlan Area? what blobk you? wich kind of help or support are you looking for? maybe I can help.....

I use pd in my work as teacher in italian and spanish fine arts accademy course. It's true that Brera miss some puredata specific course; we triyed to push it a while ago during ahacktitude 2009. Things are changings and different accademias for all the country are interesting every day more on our tools and practices.

And, trying to be constructive and to resolve our problems: why don't you or alistair participate more on puredata.it?

that's true and that's the reason why i opened this thread. i was hoping to find at least another person from milan with some pd experience.

by the way, have you ever met any pd user from milan? getting in touch with them would be really helpful. in the meanwhile i followed your advice and posted a new thread on the italian forum too, let's see what happens.

Hi all.

I'm a newbie pd user from Treviso.

It is a couple of month I started studying pure data. Before I tried with MAXMSP and then moved to pd.

I'm really glad to see other italian users - and really serious user, professors and experts -. The main problem i found in the transition from max to pd is the absence of good explanation and tutorials for the last one.

We won't find anything like the Giri's volume for max in Pd. I'm having some problem to learn the program with precision and confidence.

Ciao Guido and all. (In my little spare time) I'm a pd user since 2006.
I work in Milan area but I live near Bergamo. I know that in the past italian pd users met once in Torino
(event organized by Micron from italian pd forum), but that never happened again (to my knowledge).
