just wondering if anybody has made a buffer that you can write to, and simultaneously read from?

I want to put live input from a microphone into pd, then manipulate the playback of the sound whilst still recording to the buffer...

i need to constantly record to the buffer, and be able to playback from any point (from the earliest up to the present point) in that buffer whilst it still keeps buffering/recording...

i.e.

performer plays with mallets on instrument.
microphone picks up sound for input
pd controls playback speed/pitch of sound picked up in microphone while still recording sound for next/now playback and manipulation etc...

does this make sense?

[delwrite~] is the closest to what you want, i think.

you can read back from it with [delread~] or probably [vd~] in your case, as you want to vary the pitch.

how would i make it determine where it reads/plays from?
the idea is that it would be able to scrub through time - i.e move at variable speed through the buffer as it writes...

the signal inlet of [vd~] varies the playback position. so, if it is getting a signal of 0, then it will playback as soon as the buffer is written (ie, delay of 0). if it gets a signal of 100, then it will playback 100ms before the current buffer write position. then, for example, you can do something like send a [line~] signal like this:

[100, 0 1000(
|
[line~]
|
[vd~ buffername]

that way you scrub through the buffer from 100ms delay to no delay, over a period of 1000ms. this will have the same effect as speeding up a record.

just keep looking at the help file for [vd~] until you get the hang of how it works, and then you should have a pretty good basis for the logic.
