Hi people,
thanks to this community I had my first electro gig with PD which is now part of my rig.
I'm needing more and more percussive sound, in a minimalistic way. I love very much Alva Noto works, so I'd like to find a drum machine with some preset clicks, pops, sines and so on.
If not does anybody know a good and live-friendly drum machine where I can prepare drum scores and load samples or synthesize clicks, pops, sines and so on?
Thanks

Minimal percussion patch Alva Noto style?

Bump!
What's your favorite drum machine on Pure Data or Linux? -
I love Obiwannabe's JazzMan kit ~ http://www.obiwannabe.co.uk/html/toys/jazzman/jazzman.html
Have used it twice in performance, the last being this one:
(for the record, I've only performed to fill "gaps" in things I've done with/for other artists over the past few years, which means that, in the case of the performance in that video, everything was impromptu, therefore almost off-the-shelf~;o).
edit: otherwise, I use whatever comes to hand, including Hydrogen, Buzz Machines, Roland PMA5, or....
Keep well all ~ Shankar

it probably depends a lot on what you want to do, if a drummachine is good
(for live use). do you want to prepare a complex drum-score to play along?
or do you want to play/improvise with (simple) patterns? do you want to
program drums on the fly? or use algorithmns to create/manipulate beats?a simple drumpattern is easiely built in pd: a counter,
a selcect with nr of steps, and the same number of floats
and numbers/toggels/sliders/...
you can create variations by manipulating the counter, or filtering
the outputs by value (using moses), to make the pattern thinner or
richer. (example attached) and assign faders/toggels to a
midi-controller.there are good pattern-sequencers in rj-lib, and afair in netpd.
i usually use my own in
(http://www.martin-brinkmann.de/mnb_instruments_wip.zip)
for simple drumpatterns and the like.
an example for algorithmic pattern creation is the "can of beats"
rjdj-scene by chris mccormick. or you could do something with
markov-chains, or celluar-automata... -
thanks all, well of course I know how to build a basic one, but I was looking for suggestions on the ones you like most. The jazzman is supercool! Thanks mnb I will look into the zip file soon...
