Hello, this is my first post. I am pretty new to pure data.

What I would like to do is have a microphone input for my saxophone and a second one for either cassette or reel to reel. I want to let the tape which is pre-recorded with saturation, hiss and noise, go for the duration of a live tune. The kicker is that I want the tape to only be heard by the audience while a certain volume level is reached by my horn (like a gate). In this way the tape acts like an effect pedal to the saxophone because it is dependent on input from the horn.

I understand (somewhat) that a patch would have to include something like this:

Please help if anyone knows what I'm talking about.

Edit: Posted before I saw Caucasian's response, but I thought I'd leave it up anyway...

An adc~ is the input of your computer,
It has 2 outputs, by default these are the "left" (1) and "right" (2) of the input.
You can specify the number of intputs by adding more numbers, for example three would be [adc~ 1 2 3] or just input three alone would be [adc~ 3] etc.

env~ outputs dB and ranges from 0-100, so you need to scale this down to relative amplitude (0-1) so it can be used to control amplitude.

To track and match amplitude a simple patch would look something like this:

With your Sax plugged into input 2 and the noise plugged into input 1.

Or you could experiment with replacing

• with [> 66]. That would turn the noise on and off every time you went above 66 dB.

lead: your solution is maybe more musical - noise will be added smoothly - mine is just on/off gate. Combination of both would be probably the best
