ive noticed something about the [metro] object. If I turn the DSP on the metronome becomes slower and if I move the mouse with the DSP on then it becomes faster. I use a PowerBook G4 and the X Tiger. Is there any other more reliable way of counting the time in PD that isnt attached to the DSP nor to the mouse movement?

from the sound of your problem, i think it's probably gui related. i'd chance a guess that the metro object is outputting at exactly the rate you tell it to, but then whatever gui object you're using to see the metro's output is lagging with increased cpu usage.

pd's gui is pretty sluggish. ...especially if you have a lot of sliders / bangs/ etc on the screen.

...unless of course, you're running metro VERY quickly (intervals of 20ms or less) ...then its output might become sluggish.

yes, im using [metro 1]. I need a lot of time precision and I think 20ms is not enough, but Ill try.

[metro 1] will still work in a lot of cases, and miller said on the mailing list that metros faster than 1 ms will also work (although i think you have to manually input the speed thru the right inlet)

maybe just try tweaking your patch to cut some of the cpu usage.

if you attach the patch to a reply here, then someone might be able to help you make it work better.
