Hello everyone!

I've been looking at PD for a few days only (and it is fascinating, by the way). My objective is to find out if there's a way to make a PD patch control other (more conventional) MIDI applications on the same computer - by sending MIDI messages to automation parameters, for example. Having looked through help and the forum, I found no answer. Do you, people, have any directions?

If you are running windows I recomend midiYoke.

yah, midiyoke, as mentioned, or jack (i think that works on windows???) or soundflower from cycling 64 (not sure if that works on windows either)

if you're on linux, then definately jack

and for mac os x, either jack, or soundflower...i kind of like soundflower, but most people seem to go with jack.

anyway, that's for your 'middle man midi app' to send the data between pd and your other app.

as far as getting control data to the 'middle man app', you can use pd's midi objects: [ctlout] [msgout] [noteout] etc.....

i think if you just put one of those objects in a patch and then right / ctrl click for help, you will get a list of all the others.

i'm new in pd
i've mac g4 osx.4 and i can't use internal midi becouse pd preferences i can' see nothing in midi settings

if you have pd 0.39.2 , then midi preferences can be found from the menubar at the top of your screen.

click pd 0.39.2 , and then preferences is the 2nd option, after 'about'

I've pd extended 0.38.4, I tried in preferences, but I can see no devices.
I think the problem is in OSX 10.4 midi settings.
some applications works well (quicktime use quicktime synthesizer).
Pd work well with eternal devices, but I'm interested in working with normal internal midi synth becouse of I often work off home.

maybe you don't have a midi application enabled?

if not, go into utilities/Audio MIDI Setup, and enable the AIC driver,

or get jack ( http://jackaudio.org/ )

I'm OSX, but occasionally Windows as well. i've got Soundflower, but didn't know that it can route MIDI as well as audio. Time to try.. )

i was wrong.

at's apples generic IAC driver that routes midi. it probably came standard with your OS. just go into applications>utilities>audio midi setup and launch IAC
