I've just started using pure data. I'm using PD & gem on MAC OSX tiger 10.3.9

All I'm trying to do at the moment is open a quicktime video or final cut pro video file but I can only get the sound.

I need to know how to get gem to project my quicktime video onto a single rectangle that I can move about so that I can set up a split screen. I'm intending to also use another live video feed in gem at the same time.

Also when I use the auto $1 message it says argument out of range. What exactly is an argument?!

any help whatsoever would be much appreciated.

I attached my load file which loads up the sound but no video. It also plays loads of weird colours so I think it might be playing a small fraction of the screen or something.

it's the number (or symbol) that will replace the $1 sign. in this case, it must be 1 (play) or 0 (stop) ...anything else is 'out of range'

ok...so first thing, which you probably guessed from my above post....auto $1 needs a 1 or 0 , and you're sending it a [bang] ...so you need to change that bang to a toggle (like in the documentation example)

second, your rectange in HUUUGE!!! [rectangle 3 4] fills half my screen, so i think 3 = 300 pixels.

again, look in the documentation example.

also, look into [loadbang] to open stuff automatically....for example 'create' and '1' messages that go to [gemwin] if you just attach a loadbang to them, it's much easier.
