Hi people, this is the first time I've posted as I've just got in to PD. Hello!

Hopefully this is the correct section to post in... please move it if it's not.

I'm going through the examples set out in the "Designing Sound" .pdf written by Andy Farnell, and am having issues with the "select" object example on page 33.

Basically the Bang from the 4th outlet of the Select object isn't having any effect on my "0" message, which is meant to resest the counter to 0, completing the cycle 0,1,2,3,0,1,2,3 etc.

Am I doing anything wrong?

I have attached the patch as my description above is incomplete.

uhhh? that's interesting, seems to be a bug! i re-typed the object with [sel 0 1 2 3] - then it works well. after that i typed again [select 0 1 2 3] and it worked too! i don't know, why this behaves so strange, but you should try out re-typing the object with [sel]...

This is because the output of your [f 0] is going to the [sel] before the [+ 1]. Once it hits 3 it sends that to [sel 0 1 2 3], which sends a zero to [f 0]'s right inlet. Then, it sends that 3 to the [+ 1], sending a 4 to [f 0]'s right inlet. When there are multiple patch cords fanning from one outlet, the order is determined by the order you connected them.

This is why you should *always* use [trigger] (or [t], for short) to enforce the correct execution order. You could use a [t f f] to send to the [+ 1] first, then the [sel].
