I m just learning [pix_record] in pd , and i m trying here with a very simple animation that a cube rotating in gemwin ,

and trying to record it with a *.mov output.

but here I just made a *.mov file ,but it is only very little size, 32kb , I think it means that there's none frame be recoaded .

and attached file is my pd file,

I dont know if there is a sequnces to click on the toggle and bang messages to control [pix_record] or not ?

upgrade Gem, there is a bug in old versions where pix_record only saves 4 frames...

what I do personally is use pix_write to save sequences of images, then combine them into a video later.

and here i think pix_write has a lower level for cpu usage rate than pix_record ?

Well, i like being able to save lossless images and experiment with encoding at different quality levels later - eg smaller Ogg Theora for internet transmission and larger DVD MPEG2 to play on hardware players.

Don't know about CPU usage, here my gfx card is so slow at saving, so I get ~3fps when rendering in any case... means my workflow involves recording all controller actions and playing them back into my patch later - I need to write a tutorial on that at some point...

your workflow sounds so cool that it attracts me to know that how do you recoad your patches action (if it is the real actions that you control or the actions that inside gemwin ?), and how to send back into your patch later

i record my key presses and midi controller movements, just by using [timer] to find the time between input events and then [print EvEnT] - running "pd -stderr" redirected to a log file in case pd crashes (hasn't happened to me lately) - if you're not so paranoid you could add them directly to a [textfile].

then to play back, i massage the log file with grep and sed etc, load it into a [textfile] and play it back, using the delay times from the event log. pd uses like 1000% cpu load (remember to do this part with -nrt !) and it's horribly stuttery, but it all stays in sync when you recombine the images and wav file later, because of pd's logical clock system.

Use Syphon, syphon client and/or syphon recorder!
