Hello,
I just installed PD extended 40.3 on Windows Vista Home Premium 64 SP1. I am using an M-Audio Uno USB-MIDI interface to an external MIDI keyboard. I am experiencing a one second delay between striking a key on the keyboard and seeing the note come into PD. I have tested another program that also takes MIDI input, and there is no observable delay. I used that same version of PD extended on another computer that is running Windows XP and it seems to work fine there with the same Uno USB-MIDI interface. I did a lot of work on that computer, and have a lot of data from that computer. That computer died, but I had the data backed up and now it is on this computer. I would very much prefer not to have to start everything over with another program, so is there a way to fix the delay?
Thank you.

One Second Delay with Vista

Most likely, you have a high buffer size.
Go into Media > Audio Settings (or whatever it is called on your setup),
Make sure the correct Driver is being used for both input and output device. then the number box labelled 'delay (msec)' is your buffer size setting. bring that down to 12 (or less, if you can) reduce it to the lowest value before clicking/popping noises occur.

I brought it down to 12 like you said, but the delay time got even longer. I can put it down to 2, without any clicking or popping, but there is like a 6 second delay time when I do so. It is almost anti-logical.

oh dear
It looks like some kind of low-level driver/OS issue.
I have no experience with M-audio on Windows. Have you selected the correct driver under MIDI Settings (in PD) is there some kind of graphical front end for the M-audio driver that needs tweaking?
How is MIDI handled in Windows? Is that set up correctly?

I assume it is being handled perfectly fine by windows, for I can use other programs without any delay issues. I am guessing that it isn't a driver issue for the same reason.
It is weird.. If I go into audio setting and give it a 1 second buffer time (1000 in the ms box) PD recognizes the signal instantly, but takes a second to send it out. I have found that if I put in 100 ms then I get the best compromise of delay in recognition in pd and delay of sending it out. The first time I used PD there was no problem like this, then I was done for the day so I closed it, but next time I opened it this happened
Thank you for all your help... Maybe I can get this working *Yay* -
reinstall pd!
