Hello there !

here is our trouble : installing pd on studio64 linux.
i've been looking at a number forums on the net, other people ask the same question and no clear answer comes.

i know little about linux, i'm more a musician/technician/designer. i would like to build my own effects / mastering tools and include them with jack for a maximum of flexibility and efficiency.
on win xp the installation has been quick and straight forward. other people report a smooth installation on mac too.

here is what i know about studio64: it looks like it's based on debian 2.14 but the desktop is definitely using gnome. my thinkpad T23 is a 32bit machine.

the advantage of studio 64 is the bundle of audio/music softwares that are included.

we need an install package of pd for apt-get or synaptic for studio 64 ! as many people write on various forums it's a tricky case.

64 studio is currently based on Debian Etch (4). As far as i know, the only architecture for which doesn't exist a Pd-extended port yet is amd64. If you are using 64studio i386, there should be no problem installing and running the current Pd-extended version which can be found here: http://puredata.info/downloads (choose the Debian/stable Etch (Intel i386 processor)) package.

Install it with dpkg -i package_name.deb. so you can later uninstall it with synaptic or apt.

Alternatively (and this works for every architecture), you could compile the cvs (or latest release) version, and then compile only the libraries you need, when you need'em.

That's what i did on my 64studio amd64 and i've compiled the most common libraries i need.
