so, i've downloaded and installed pd on my xp pro box, and when i try to run pd.exe, it thinks for a moment, then seems to do nothing. however, pd.exe is actually running in the process manager. curious.
any thoughts? apologies if this is obvious/annoying/oft-discussed (i did look around)...
thanks,

Installing pd 0.38 in windows?
-
I have the same problems when I install pd 0.39.2 or 0.40.1, but there's no installation problems with pd 0.38.4 extended. When I installed pd, there's always a wish84.exe trying to get through my firewall, is this all right?
Also when I use pd 0.38.4 extended, everytime it shows

Hi Charles,
yes, it's probably your firewall that blocks pd... just give permission to run it
(my firewall on win - zone alarm - just asks me at the first installation, then
you can set a rule to let it run pd.exe always...)@ yorken:

environment at your commandsfftease: can't load library
hid: can't load librarythis is not ok It means that probably you have set those entries
in File->Startup but the libraries (.dll files with the same name) are not
reachable by the program.. Try to find these .dll on your pd folder
(look for fftease.dll) and if you find them just add the path to the
File->Path ...for pmpd, VASP, xsample etc. it seems ok...
pdp and pidip are graphical extensions to PD
that, if I'm not wrong, work only on Linux (maybe Mac...)
so don't worry about them.cheers,

Hi, AlbertoZ, Thanks so much for your help.
I searched fftease.dll, hid.dll in pd folder, but could not find them. I tried to install again, still the same problem. So where I can download those .dll files ?

Hi yorken,
I searched a bit the pd list archives (http://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/ : go there, you have
a great search engine that will often help you) and I saw that hid was never ported on windows, while fftease (a collection of spectral processor objects), as far as I can see is only available in source code into the Pure data cvs repository..
So my suggestion is: if you are just start learning PD just forget about them (at the
moment) then, if you are interested to these come back in the futureProbably there is an issue of compatibility between versions of PD extended (Win-Linux-Mac) that
makes an overall structure the same for all the platforms but not all externals work
on all platforms...Best,
Alberto
