I'm having trouble using the data I get from my arduino. I am sending values as ASCII strings to [comport]. I cannot figure out why it is so difficult to convert them back to usable floats. What I get out of [comport] is a string of ascii characters(represented by two-digit numbers), followed by a carriage return(13) and a linefeed(10). I could build a sorting machine to get just the usefull stuff, convert ascii to symbols, the to floats. However, I would still have to deal with recombining the strings. This seems like something that should "just work." any suggestions?

I should mention, I am open to using other data types on the arduino end; octal, hex, binary, whatever.

[string2any] seems like a viable choice. However, I still need to convert strings to floats.

The idea is a *BASIC* hw interface using arduino to interface stompbox style controllers: Wah pedals, stompbox "blanks", knobs, sensors, etc...

dude, u just saved my day! been searching for this since 8 hours now!
i need to read sensor data from an ultrasonic sensor and i couldn't get it workin with pduino, since the arduino-ultrasonic-patch and the firmata don't get along with each other. i think this will be great for other stuff as well(accelerometers, etc).

I didn't use Pduino mostly because I could not figure out why I was only getting messages every 10ms or so. Instead of looking into it further I decided to make my own firmware. Pduino is great because you can control the I/O pins from Pd, but I'd just rather have static firmware that worked how I wanted.

So I've been banging my head against the wall with the same problem that you had, outputting a string of 16 values from an arduino, outputed as a string with spaces between the values, and using a capital A as a delimiter (i've tried other delimiters as well), and turning the output from string2any into something usable rather then:

How exactly did you go about making this incoming stream usable? I'm trying to write these values to an array, and all of my single digit numbers come in fine, but 10 and higher are completely botched.

zonxs7, did you ever figure anything out for numbers 10 and higher?

Ah, and I solved it. For me, I had to set the repack size. In nestor's patch, it was set to 22, but it wasn't clear to me if that did anything (and nestor even made a note that it didn't matter). I was expecting mostly 3 digit numbers in addition to the delimiter, so I set the repack size to 4 and that seems to have solved my problems.
