hi totally new to the world of pd but i needed something to manipulate sound to its extremes anyway if anyone can point me in the right direction to sync logic and pd on mac id be very grateful thank you

Logic and pd??

Simple MIDI commands would be the easiest way to start. You can use objects like [notein] and [noteout] to talk between Pd and any MIDI sequencer.
Use the Source.

cool what about audio can it be recorded in to logic?do i need jack?
thank you -
on mac, i'd suggest soundflower, from cycling 74
just google "soundflower" and you should find it.

I've been using Logic with Pd for the past few months. With the latest version of Pd-extended, Jack seems to work fine. There's an example in Jack's helpfile for using it with Logic. Just remember to set Pd to Jack mode (Media menu).
I've been going the IAC route for sending MIDI back and forth between the two apps, and with Logic there's a certain trick you have to do in order to avoid MIDI feedback loops. Logic (like most sequencers I've used) automatically sets tracks to receive on all MIDI input devices when in record mode. This can be a drag with IAC, because when you record MIDI to the IAC track, it sends it to the app (Pd in this case) via the bus, but then reads it back in immediately because it's also set to receive from the IAC bus! To avoid this, you'll need to go into the Environment, and go to the Clicks & Ports layer. Create a new object (it doesn't really matter, but I usually use the Moniter just so I can see what's going out) and connect the IAC port from the Physical Input object to the new object. This takes the IAC bus out of the SUM port, thus keeping it from going back into the sequencer.
Note: You only need to do this if you are sending MIDI from Logic to Pd. If you are sending MIDI from Pd to Logic, then it should work fine from the default set-up.

thanks for posting this!
-saved me from a couple days of frustration I'm sure.

This is still true for Logic Pro X, except that the MIDI Environment window is now hidden by default. Turn it back on with:
Logic Pro X->Preferences->Advanced Tools->Check the MIDI box
Following Maelstrom's advice, I opened the MIDI Environment with CMD-0, changed to the Clicks & Ports layer, added a new Monitor, and connected the target IAC port I made for PD to the monitor. Now sending MIDI from Logic Pro X to PD works.
Attached is a screenshot of the connections. I've connected Pure Data In to the Monitor as that's the port Logic is sending to.
