This patch might glitch (the demo mp3 does a little), since I kept adding more CPU-intensive stuff until my computer could barely handle it. Also, it probably only works in Pd-extended, as it uses [sort] and the reverb patch from the extras.

There's a lot of stuff in there that I find handy to reuse for other patches, so go ahead and dissect it if you like it. I might post some abstractions of the more interesting individual modules.

Amazing - if you copied tutorial stuff might I recognise (sounds)? Not a single one... you take it to such a different place.

peanutboy (or anyone who wants a cheaper version): Maybe try opening it with Pd audio turned off and then going into subpatchers [pd drums]>[pd crash] and [pd drums]>[pd hat] and turning off oversampling. OR try one of these:

obiwannabe: I think the only sonic bit in there from your tutorials is a cosine waveshaper, which adds color to the drums and the "David Bowie sound." I originally used one of your kick drums, and I put it back in the cheap version above.

I also copied the clock module from one of your composition tutorials -- here there's a primary clock and then two secondary clocks, so the middle section can go on as long as the user pleases.

The other tutorial patch that inspired me was the "simple materials" one. I have noise impulses going through parallel formant filters all over the place. Like in the Bowie sound: http://www.lubbertdas.org/fbthing.pd is a standalone version.

Hardoff, your version is amazing -- it's an interpretation that I didn't envision, which makes it all the more delightful.

Obiwannabe, speaking of plucked strings, the strings in this patch are just a basic Karplus-Strong model with a formant in the middle to simulate the body of the instrument. I saw that you posted here about some more advanced waveguides (like with two delays). Do you know where I might find examples of those?

I made a nice sitar once , but can't find it ... but I did find this lovely package posted by Kim on the pd-list that has some nice abstractions.

The only non-vanilla stuff it seems to need are [init] (from iemlib2 ?) and [sort] (from zexy ?). Awesome stuff, ichabod.

Obiwannabe: Thanks, Kim's waveguides are amazing. His patch really achieves that elusive mellow roundness that you can't get with a simple KS process. Now I have a LOT to learn about wave propagation.

If you ever find your sitar patch, please post it -- I'll be sure to combine it with Markov tom fills and a Mellotron sampler patch I made, as simulating UK psych circa 1967 in Pd is one of my secret fantasies.

I just came back to this composition and cleaned up some of the innards, as well as adding comb filters for pick position. See here for some sounds and patches. It's still not perfect, but works of art are never finished, only abandoned.
