hi,

i'm trying to add some externals to my start up paths (but they're all taken, how do i add more paths?)

but also, in the process of attempting to do this, i know see this in my pd window:

"error parsing startup arguments"

don't know if that actually effects anything, but being anal, i've reinstalled pd...but it's still there. is it something to worry about, and what does it mean?

This is a common problem Prof. The solutiion depends on platform as you need to create a startup file to add extra paths. Search the list and forum archives. Sounds like the parse error is caused by a bad line in the paths, probably an extra space or illegal char somewhere.

oh ok, thanks...so if i search for 'how to start additional start up paths' 'windows xp' that will probably do it?

with a colon and no spaces..like this

/folder/folder/pathA:/folder/folder/pathB

doesn't seem to be working..is it a semicolon for windows-i think i read that somewhere...just seems to cancel the entry infront of it as well...hmm...

hang on...you're adding externals to the 'startup' dialogue window?

from what i can gather startup will load 'libraries', but for individual externals, then you should set the path in the 'paths' dialogue. the colon method should work ok in that case,.

(note that you should set the path to the folder in which your externals are residing...not the actual filenames of the externals)
