I am experincing a horible glitch/pop sound with any OSC~ function I use. I have read this could be a result of the frequencies amplitude being beyond the capabilities of the computer audio card. I am using a G4 powerbook, with Mac OS X 10.4.11. This sound is not present during the use of noise~

any help with this would be great.

try sending the output of [osc~] through [*~ ] <send a # less than 1 to the right inlet

or send it through [*~ .6] (same thing, just the creation argument is less than one, so it's not variable.

That worked a bit the glitch is still there in the background. Its like a metronome. I have to say it sounds a lot better now than it did before.

Try doing this

Do you still hear a regular click...click...click?

If so then you need to set up some soundcard buffers.

Otherwise Randal is right, you're probably just overdriving the output.

overdriving the output just makes square distortion, not clicks, as far as i know.

the pops are an actual glitch caused by something malfunctioning, and shouldn't be there.

my advice would be

1. try running pd through your computer's inbuilt soundcard. if it stops glitching, then the problem is with your other soundcard's settings...

2. try a different version of pd...get pd-extended if you don't already have it:

3. go to preferences->audio settings->delay and make it a little bit higher and see if that helps.

4. if all else fails, i have read before of people fixing such a glitch by using JACK
