below is a link to a patch i worked on a few months ago quite a bit, but finally decided to clean it up and make it presentable. it's called udm v1.0. udm stands for unpredictable delay machine. it runs fine on pd 0.37 on win xp. you shouldn't need any special externals or abstractions; i think i have included everything necessary.
i'd explain what it does, but i have put detailed instructions directly into the patch, so it's probably best if you just take a look at it. let me know what you think or if you are able to get some cool outputs from it.

i knew as soon as i published this patch that i would find a problem with it. here's the problem--when you use the selector to switch arrays...the phasor~ that drives the tabread4~ does not recalibrate. i am working on this and hope to a fix soon, plus some other feature i am adding.

nice work ! I'm trying to test it, and maybe find a way to use for me. thanks

here is the update on my patch. i fixed some of the design problems i discovered just after i posted the patch, and i also add some new features: canvas labels for display filenames, indicators showing which array is playing, level controls for the three busses, level controls for the five delay lines, more support for message based control of the engine, and some other little things here and there.
the patch is available at http://www.geocities.com/z_fron/udm-v1.1.zip -
that's so much fun!
nice work indeed!cheers

Thanks Zac,
Beautiful piece of work. I especially like it with percussion.
Have you thought to make it be able to play more than one audio file at the same time, in some sort of auto-synch, so that one could "orchestrate" a full set of files simultaneiously?
Would be a great!
Keep well ~ Shankar
